Your Garden Deserves More Than Guesswork
When you’re planning improvements to your garden, the most important first step is understanding what will actually work in your space. Every garden is different. Levels, access, layout and existing features all affect how a project should be planned and built.
A Garden Assessment gives you the opportunity to walk through your ideas on site with Andy and receive clear professional guidance before moving forward with your project.
Rather than relying on rough estimates or trying to work things out from photos, the assessment allows you to explore what’s possible in your garden, with your goals and your space in mind.
Investment
Garden Assessments start from £395.
If you choose DNA Landscapes to carry out the work, 50% of the Garden Assessment fee is credited back against your build - T&Cs apply.
What Your Garden Assessment Includes
During your visit you will receive:
• A professional on-site consultation with Andy to discuss your ideas and goals for the space
• Time to ask questions and explore possibilities for improving your garden
• A measured site survey of the relevant areas
• A hand-drawn scaled concept layout where appropriate
• Guidance on suitable materials and finishes
• Investment guidance to help you understand likely project costs
• A review of practical build considerations such as levels and access
• A formal price proposal for the work discussed
By the end of the visit you will have a much clearer picture of what could be achieved in your garden and how to move forward.
Why Start With a Garden Assessment?
When you'rre thinking about improving your garden, you naturally want to understand things like:
• What could realistically work in your space
• How the layout of your garden could be improved
• What materials would suit your garden best
• Whether the project is practical to build
• What sort of investment the project may require
The Garden Assessment helps you answer these questions before committing to the project.
This means you can move forward with clear guidance, realistic expectations and a better understanding of the possibilities for your garden.
Is the Garden Assessment Right for Your Project?
A Garden Assessment is ideal if you are considering:
• Replacing or installing a patio
• Improving the layout of your garden
• Creating seating or entertaining areas
• Updating fencing or garden boundaries
• Making practical improvements to your outdoor space
This service works best for garden improvements and transformations, where you want professional advice before beginning the project.
Not Sure What Your Garden Project Might Cost?
If you are still exploring ideas and would like a rough guide to likely investment levels before arranging a Garden Assessment, we can often help with this.
As a general budgeting guide, most professionally installed patios and hard landscaping projects typically fall within the region of £200–£300 per square metre, depending on the materials chosen, ground preparation required, and the overall specification.
This can help you gain an early understanding of whether your project may sit within the investment range you are comfortable with.
Once a Garden Assessment has been carried out, we can review your garden properly, assess levels, drainage and access, and provide clear advice along with an accurate proposal based on the specific conditions of your space
How to Measure Your Garden (A Rough Guide)
If you’re not sure about the exact size of your garden, don’t worry - a rough estimate is perfectly fine at this stage. Here are a few easy ways you can check:
1. Count Your Fence Panels
Most standard fence panels in the UK are 1.8m wide (6ft).
For example:
6 fence panels across = roughly 10.8 metres
This can give you a quick idea of the width or length of your garden.
2. Use a Tape Measure
If you have a tape measure, simply measure the length and width of the area you’re considering for the project.
Example:
10m long × 5m wide = 50m² area
Even an approximate measurement is helpful.
3. Use Google Maps / Google Earth
If you're unsure, you can also use Google Maps or Google Earth to estimate the size of your garden.
You can measure the space by placing points around the area you’re planning to transform.
4. Don’t Worry if You’re Not Sure
If you're unsure, that’s completely fine. During your Garden Assessment, Andy will take proper measurements and assess the space in detail.
A rough size simply helps us give you initial budgeting guidance before the visit.
